The office of Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources is an office in the United States Department of State. It was created in 2009, when it was decided that the duties of the United States Deputy Secretary of State should be split into two offices. At that time, James Steinberg, who received the formal title of United States Deputy Secretary of State, became responsible for policy matters, while Jacob Lew, who received the title of Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources became responsible for budget and internal management of the State Department.
