The Baltimore City Department of Transportation maintains the public roadways in the city of Baltimore, Maryland, United States, including street lights, traffic signals, and parking meters. The department also maintains all but four of the numbered highways within the city.

Department operations

The Baltimore Department of Transportation is responsible for several functions of the transportation system in Baltimore, including repairing roads, sidewalks, and alleys; road signs; street lights; and managing the flow of transportation systems.[1] In addition, the agency is in charge of vehicle towing and traffic cameras.[2][3]

Highway maintenance

BCDOT maintains all streets within the city of Baltimore. This includes all streets that are marked as state and U.S. highways. BCDOT also maintains I-83 and I-70 within the city limits. The only highways within the city that are not maintained by BCDOT include I-95, I-395, I-695 (Baltimore Beltway), and I-895 (Harbor Tunnel Thruway); those four highways are maintained by the Maryland Transportation Authority.[4]
