David Schapira is a State Senator and the Senate Minority Leader in the State of Arizona. He represents the communities of Tempe and South Scottsdale in District 17. He served two terms in the Arizona House of Representatives, having been first elected in 2006. In 2010, he was elected to the Arizona State Senate and chosen by his colleagues to be the Senate Minority Leader.

Schapira has served on both the Appropriations and Education Committees for five years. He has been the ranking member of the Education Committee for the last three years.

Schapira is currently a faculty member at Arizona State University and a consultant for Teach For America. He is also the principal of a business, DO Campaigns, which designs websites and strategies for campaigns and small businesses nationwide. Schapira previously served as a public high school teacher in Phoenix and as an aide to US Senator Tom Daschle.

Schapira earned his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from The George Washington University. Schapira resides in Tempe.
