David Maraghy, is an American CEO, Sports Agent and Attorney. He is a member of the Virginia and North Carolina Bar associations. He is the CEO of the Richmond based Sports Management International, LC and Adjunct Professor of Sports Leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University. He currently resides in Richmond, VA.

Early life

Maraghy was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts, March 17, 1952. As a youth, he served on the crew of The Tabor Boy, a 100-ft schooner that sailed up and down the east coast. During high school, he was a tour guide at Plimoth Plantation. Maraghy received his start in sports serving as the General Chairman of the 1986 Greater Greensboro Open, a PGA Tour tournament.

Education

Maraghy earned his bachelor’s degree in 1974 from Williams College in Williamstown, Mass, where he majored in History and Psychology and played varsity lacrosse. He earned his Juris Doctor in 1977 from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Sports Management International, LC

Sports Management International, LC is based in Richmond, VA. It is a professional sports management and marketing firm, specializing in golf. SMI has three major areas of concentration; player management/agent, event management/consultation, and SMI Productions, LC. SMI has a client list which includes several PGA Tour players and events.

SMI Productions, LC

SMI Productions, LC produces televised golf. Maraghy served as an Executive Producer for the Crown Royal Golf Championship and the SunTrust Virginia State Open. The final two rounds of both events were televised live to an audience of more than 10 million households each, across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast United States from Pennsylvania through Florida. The SunTrust Tournament is the only State Open in America with live television coverage. Both tournaments are unique in that they are the only such events in the United States which offer such television exposure without the benefit of any affiliation with the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, or any governing bodies of golf. Maraghy has been involved in these efforts since 1988.

VCU Sportscenter

In 1999, Maraghy co-founded the VCU SportsCenter at Virginia Commonwealth University, a graduate program offering a Master's Degree in Sport Leadership. He served as Executive Director of that program until 2002 when he returned full-time to the world of sports.

Fantasy Golf Camp

In 1993, Maraghy created the Fantasy Golf Camp in Las Vegas, NV where several professional golfers — John Daly, Payne Stewart, Peter Jacobsen, Lanny Wadkins, Curtis Strange and Davis Love — played with lucky amateurs

Hyundai Motor Golf Classic

In 1995, Maraghy created the Hyundai Motor Golf Classic in Seoul, for which he brought to Korea for the first time such PGA Tour stars as John Daly, Curtis Strange, Craig Stadler and Justin Leonard. He also packaged that event for ESPN. The following year Maraghy returned to Korea for the Ssang Yong Securities Challenge where he brought Tom Watson, Corey Pavin, Sandy Lyle and Sam Torrance.

• 1981-1982- Chairman of the Board, Greensboro/Guilford Crimestoppers Inc., founded volunteer citizens committee which raised funds and established reward procedures to encourage citizens to provide valuable information to the police department, which led to many crimes being solved.
• 1983- Rotary Award Winner, Grant from Rotary Foundation of Rotary International for Overseas Exchange. Intensive six-week period of public speaking and personal appearance in England.
