David Breeden

David Breeden

David McKee Breeden (b. July 19, 1946, Fort Worth, TX - d. June 22, 2005) was an American clarinetist, who performed as principal with the San Francisco Symphony for 25 years. A native of Fort Worth, TX, he had been a student of his father, Leon Breeden, clarinetist and renown pioneer in jazz education at the University of North Texas College of Music. David had taught at Stanford University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Breeden earned degrees from the University of North Texas (Bachelor of Music, 1968) and Catholic University. He performed for several years with the U.S. Navy Band.

Family

  • Breeden was married to Barbara Breeden, now of Belmont, CA. They had three children:
  1. Anne Breeden of Chicago, a pianist and graduate of the Eastman School of Music, who as of 2009, is Executive and Artistic Director of Arts At Large
  2. Mark Breeden of Rochester, NY, a pianist, who as of 2009, is a candidate for a doctorate of musical arts at the Eastman School of Music
  3. Chris Breeden of Belmont, CA[1]
