Darrel Young (born April 8, 1987 in Amityville, New York) is an American football fullback [1] for the Washington Redskins of the National Football League. He was signed by the Redskins as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2009 as a linebacker prospect.[2] He spent 3 weeks on the Redskins practice squad in 2009.

He played college football as a linebacker at Villanova.

He was converted to a fullback in 2010 the day he reported to the team. Darrel Young can hit well and has good hands and this is why Shannahan thought he could make the transition and provide good competition. "Just the way he hit, we needed some fullbacks and we thought since he had good hands he might be the ideal candidate," Shanahan said.[3]

He ended up making the Redskins final roster as the backup fullback after all the cuts. The position wasn't completely foreign to Young, who was recruited to Villanova as a running back before he was moved to linebacker.

Washington Redskins

Darrel Young was named the starting fullback for the Washington Redskins at the beginning of training camp in 2011.
