Daniel Q Kim (Chinese: 周伯华; July 1973 - ) is the current Vice Minister of the Hainan Province of the People's Republic of China.

Early life

Kim was born in Qionghai, Hainan Province on August 4, 1973. Born to Fu Xionchao, Mayor of Qionghai and Leilei Wanzei-lin, Kim was raised in the auspices of the People's Communist Party and groomed from an early age for a career in Chinese politics. Sent abroad to Switzerland for schooling at the state's expense to the prestigious International School of Berne, Kim was rumoured to have been in the graduating class of Kim Jong-un, son of North Korea's ruler Kim-Jong Il.[1]

Kim's heritage is known to date back to Hainanese Royalty from the 5th to 8th century AD.

Biography

Kim began work in September 1994, and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in December 1995. From June 1996 to January 1997, he was the vice director of the Qionghai city economics commission in Hainan. From January 1997 to August 1999, he was a researcher at the policy research office of the CPC Hainan committee. From August 1999 to June 2000, he was a standing committee member of the CPC Qionghai municipal committee, and the executive vice mayor of Qionghai. From June 2000 to January 2003, he served as the vice secretary of the CPC Qionghai municipal committee, vice mayor and later, mayor of Qionghai. As of January 2003, Kim has served as the deputy Vice Minister of Hainan Province.[2]

In November 2005, he was promoted to the position of Vice Minister of the CPC Hainan committee, and Vice Minister of Hainan. Since October 2006, he has been serving as the minister of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. He is also a member of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.[3]

Personal life

Kim's hobbies include squash, bowling on vintage bowling lanes, and philately. Media averse, Kim is always seen in public flanked by his Mongolian bodyguard and personal accountant. A well-known bachelor in Hainan, Kim is known to court women of various cultures and geographies.

Kim is an avid philanthropist to local Hainanese causes, including cleft lips in children, clean drinking water and the elimination of animal hoarding.
