Curie Island

Curie Island (66°39′S 140°3′E / 66.65°S 140.05°E / -66.65; 140.05) is a small rocky island near the east end of Geologie Archipelago, lying 1 nautical mile (1.9 km) southwest of Derby Island, close north of Astrolabe Glacier Tongue. Photographed from the air by U.S. Navy Operation Highjump, 1946-47. Charted by the French Antarctic Expedition, 1949–51, and named by them for the noted French family of physicians and chemists: Pierre Curie (1859–1906) and Marie Curie (1867–1934).
