Competent Authorities for REACH and CLP (CARACAL)

CARACAL is a group of experts that advises the European Commission and European Chemicals Agency on questions related to the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) law and the CLP Regulation. It was founded as "European Commission Working Group on the Practical Preparations for REACH" in May 2004, and was renamed the "REACH Competent Authorities (REACH CA)" in 2007. In 2009 the name was changed again to "Competent Authorities for REACH and CLP (CARACAL)".

The members of CARACAL are representatives of Member States' competent authorities for REACH and CLP, representatives from competent authorities of EEA-EFTA countries, and observers from non-EU countries, international organisations and other stakeholders.[1]

CARACAL has met two to three times per year since 2008. Minutes of CARACAL meetings are available on the group's home page.[2]
