Come Thou Almighty King

Come Thou Almighty King
Sheet music version

Come Thou Almighty King is a composition called "Italian Hymn" which was written by Giardini Felice (1716–1796). It is from the songbook, 55 Songs and Choruses for Community Singing published in 1917. According to the book, with the addition of these words by Charles Wesley in 1756, it has become one of the most widely used hymns and has been translated into several languages.

Lyrics

Verse1:

Come, Thou almighty King, Help us Thy name to sing, Help us to praise! Father all glorious, O'er all victorious, Come and reign over us, Ancient of days!

Verse 2:

Come, Thou incarnate Word, Gird on They mighty sword, Our prayer attend! Come, and Thy people bless, And give Thy word success: Spirit of holiness, On us descend!

Verse 3:

Come, Holy Comforter, Thy sacred witness bear, In this glad hour! Thou, who almighty art, Now rule in ev'ry heart, And ne'er from us depart, Spirit of pow'r!

An optional 4th verse ties the first three into a hymn to the Holy Trinity:

To the great One in Three, eternal praises be hence evermore; Thou sovereign majesty may we in glory see, and to eternity love and adore.
