Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Inc., based in Birmingham, Alabama, is a private company. Of the 500 in the United States, it is the third largest bottler of Coca-Cola products in the United States and the second largest in which The Coca-Cola Company does not own an interest.[1]

Chiefly independent businessmen, the Coca-Cola bottlers take syrup sold by the company and combine it with carbonated water. They then ship the finished product to stores and other vendors. Therefore, they are considered the brand's local distributors. [2]

History

The company was founded in 1902 as the Crawford-Johnson Company. Today the company is a major provider of Coca-Cola products in parts of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, and South Carolina. Its brands include Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Barqs, Sprite, Fanta and PowerAde. [3]
