Coalition Fight Music

The Coalition is a company that composes and produces a broad variety of music with heavy involvement in the Mixed Martial Arts community and with several charitable organizations. CFM's sound is a dynamic mixture of styles that range from metal to electronica and hip hop to UK grime. United by a passion/drive for both MMA and music, every track the band develops encompasses the "fighters spirit" in the form of music.

Notable Contributions

In MMA

The Coalition has made a name for themselves as the first and only mainstream band to sponsors fighters.[1] In October 2010, The Coalition was awarded the prestigious honor of being "Artist of the Month"[2] by Sacramento's premiere rock station, KRXQ 98 Rock. During this time, CFM's lead single "Reachout" was played daily on the radio.

In a collaborative effort with Wartime TV, Mind Glue Media, UCMMA and HaloPR, CFM artists The Relles, Statecyde and Beyond the Grove produced "Wartime", MMA's first music video which has been featured on the "Wartime" television program showing on UK's My Channel[3]

CFM has also produced music for Kung Fu Factory's Supremacy MMA game, the first of its kind to include real characters in female MMA. [4]

In the UK

Additionally, The Coalition has used their unique blend of musical influences which has garnered great attention in the UK as one of UK's premier DJs Charlie Sloth from BBC radio has added The Coalition to his playlist [5]

CFM's fame in the UK is attributable to their contributions to Wartime TV with the opening theme song "Wartime" and creating the first ever MMA music video, "Will 2 Live." [6][7] They were also the first band to successfully sponsor a fighter, Nick "The Headhunter" Chapman though music sales and provide live performances for MMA promotions. [8]

In Social Media

Notable Uses of Online Media Marketing

With a few songs already released, The Coalition moved onto the next stage of promoting their work not only by disseminating a quality product but also by being memorable as individuals. After being invited back on MMAScraps Radio, The Coalition would again stir up the MMA industry with a humorous skit that has developed into what is known by MMA enthusiasts, most visibly on character restricted media such as Twitter, as "WWYD" or "What would you do?" and sometimes "NOTBP" or "None other than Phil Baroni." [9] The original skit was played on MMAScraps but subsequently posted in several industry hot spots, and follows the general formula beginning with the phrase, "what would you do....." followed by a hypothetical situation putting the questioned in a humorous but vulnerable position (such as needing a towel after taking a shower) with the punchline being an awkward situation made even more awkward by the sudden and unexpected presence of ("standing there handing you a towel is") "none other than Phil Baroni" [10]

"Get Phil on TV" Campaign

Preceding UFC 125 CFM launched a successful online campaign to "Get Phil on TV" through the use of Twitter and Youtube [11][12] which caught the attention of Dana White [13] and prompted him to get certain preliminary fights on the ION network. White announced on Dec 28, 2010 that he "Got the prelims on the ION network in over 100 million homes and got you 3 fights including the Phil Baroni fight you have been terrorizing me about!"

MMA Radio

Notable MMA radio shows who regularly featured Coalition Fight Music in addition to MMAScraps Radio include ESPN 97.5 "In the Cage" hosted by Tapout Magazine's Adam Villarreal, Fist-ta-Cuffs radio, MMAGospel radio, and MMABeatdown.[14] MMATorturehouse.com,

MMA's First Mixtape, "The Album"

MMABeatdown was the first official website to release "MMA's First Mixtape, 'The Album'" by Coalition Fight Music.[15] The mixtape was available for download free of charge for a promotional time beginning on December 8, 2010 and ending New Years Eve. The day the mixtape was released, there was overwhelming support and the downloads caused www.megaupload.com to crash. MMATorturehouse.com Vice President, Ryan McDonald announced over twitter that he updated the website with two additional download sources, totaling three sources as alternatives should the upload sites continue to shut down.

The music, the comedy skits and highlight videos were all promoted outside the traditional methods. With the help of internet radio including the hosts, internet media, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and other online promotional tools, The Coalition has, and continues, to broaden their fan base beyond the industry enthusiasts of the MMA Underground.

Fight Music Stylings

The originators of "Fight Music" [16] The Coalition has used their experience as fighters in various capacity to make music which encompasses the philosophy of a fighter and the MMA industry. By combining various forms of music that they have learned by working in the music industry worldwide, and primarily in Europe and the United States, The Coalition has evolved into a complex and all inclusive music style.[17]

Community Contributions

The Coalition works hard to promote the philosophies of MMA by combining the passionate creativity in their music with a willingness to learn and explore new ways of marketing and maintaining a fierce loyalty and financially reciprocating to the industry that helped build them. Even outside the MMA industry, The Coalition maintains the fighter's spirit; they embrace the philosophy of protecting the people whether through military service or though community service.

The Coalition came out with a song "Darius", in support of Team Darius, a organization that raises awareness and helps support finding for Periventricular leukomalacia. A portion of the proceeds of that song will go towards efforts to raise awareness and help fund research. [18]

Additionally, The Coalition works regularly with California Against Slavery to help raise awareness for a cause which fights for stricter legislation to protect children from human trafficking for sexual exploitation. Since first performing at the Sacramento rally, The Coalition has been named their official band.[19]

CFM has brought together numerous high profile MMA personalities and business to join them in the fight against human trafficking including Kung Fu Factory, the creators of Supremacy MMA, Phil Baroni and Michelle Guiterrez [20][21]
