The Clothes Show Live is a consumer exhibition brand consisting of two shows held annually each May in ExCeL, London and December in Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre. The events showcase latest fashion, beauty and music trends on large and often interactive features and stands. The show is considered the premier fashion event in the UK and praised for its ability to attract young followers.

History

The first show launched during 1989 in London, 21 years ago on the back of the then popular television programme. Due to overwhelming visitor turn-out since 1990 the event has been held at the NEC, in Birmingham, UK. It is solely owned and operated by Haymarket Exhibitions, part of the Haymarket Media Group.^[1]

Despite the various incarnations of The Clothes Show suffering from popularity waves, the live event has remained steadily popular and still holds an audited visitor attendance of 165,093,^[2] making it the second most visited show in the UK.

Established model agencies have frequently used the show as a hunting ground for young new talent. Many now famous faces have been plucked from the shows, including Holly Willoughby,^[3] Cat Deely and Erin O'Connor^[4] amongst many more.

Clothes Show Live highlights

2006

Was held between 1 and 6 December 2006. Attracting Amy Winehouse and Simon Webbe to the cat walk plus Duncan James, T4's June Saprong and MTV's Dave Berry.^[5]

2007

Was held between 7 and 12 December 2007 and attracted 161,040 visitors.

2008

Was held between Friday 5 December and Wednesday 10 December 2008. Highlights included showcase performances on the Fashion Theatre of The Saturdays and Alesha Dixon.

2009

The 2009 show was open 4-9 December.^[6]

Roxanne McKee, the former Hollyoaks actress was named as the face of the show,^[7] and was joined at the show by various Hollyoaks co-stars, Fearne Cotton, Gok Wan, Dave Berry amongst others.

2010

Headlined by Gok Wan, the event was held from Friday 3 December to Wednesday 8 December 2010.^[8] Lucie Jones X Factor 2009 finalist, Model and West End Star performed at the show on Sunday 5th December.^[9] Appearances were also made from George Lamb and The Only Way Is Essex stars Mark Wright, Lauren Goodger, Sam Faiers & Harry Derbidge.

Clothes Show London

2009 saw the debut launch of Clothes Show London^[10] that took place from 29 to 31 May in ExCeL, making the brand a bi-annual occurrence across the UK.^[11]

The show launched the Clothes Show Style Awards^[12] and included awards for Fashion Photographer of the Year, won by Kayt Jones, Fashion Stylist of the Year and Make-up Artist of the Year, all voted for by top industry experts within the UK’s most influential media. The other categories were all voted for by the public and included Best Dressed Man of the Year, won by George Lamb and Best Dressed Woman of the Year, collected in style by Fearne Cotton.

The 2010 moved to Earl's Court between 25 and 27 June 2010.^[13]
