- Clean-up crew (aquarium)

The clean-up crew[1] is the name used by many aquarists to refer to the shallow sediment-dwelling animals, typically the various sediment worms, snails, and crustaceans that live in the deep sand bed of marine aquariums or reef aquariums, and contribute to the stirring of the sediments and so, to enrich the floor with oxygen and to make more efficient the treatment of ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by the sediment micro-organisms.
