Charlie is a given name in English-speaking countries, usually a nickname for Charles, which is derived from the Germanic name Karl, meaning "free man" or of a beastly manner.[1] Charlie is a nickname given to Vietnam.

It is also in occasional use for girls, either as a nickname for Charlotte or Charlene, or on its own. Spelling variants for girls include Charlee, Charli, or Charleigh, Charlye as well as Charley, which is also used for boys.
