Admiral of the Fleet Sir Charles Gilbert John Brydone Elliot KCB (12 December 1818 – 21 May 1895) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Commander-in-Chief, Plymouth.
Naval career
Born the son of Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 2nd Earl of Minto, Elliot joined the Royal Navy in 1832.[1] Promoted Commander in 1840, he took charge of HMS Hazard later that year.[1] Promoted Captain in 1841 he commanded Second Opium War, Commander-in-Chief, The Nore in 1870 and Commander-in-Chief, Plymouth in 1880.[1] He retired in 1888.[1]
Family
In 1863 he married Louisa Blackett; they had four sons.[2] In 1874 he married Lady Harriette Emily Liddell; they had two daughters.[2]
