V-Disc Recordings, Jo Stafford

The V-Disc program began in June 1941 and continued until May 1949. It was a way for United States service people stationed overseas to have access to the music that was currently popular "at home". Musicians and recording artists made these special recordings strictly for those serving in the Armed Forces. Jo Stafford produced 20 V-Discs for the entertainment of those in the military during this time; this album is a compilation of the V-Disc recordings she made.[40]

The "Hollywood House Party" included on the album was a special release of Columbia Records in 1955. It was recorded at a party Stafford and husband Paul Weston gave at their home. Columbia had produced several new phonographs in 1955; part of their sales promotion for them was to give buyers of units valued at $100 or more the Columbia House Party album, which was not available any other way.[92] One side of the album featured the party with celebrities at the Weston's California home, while the other featured Mitch Miller's New York City party. Those who attended the Weston's Hollywood house party and are heard on this album include Liberace, Dave Brubeck, and Frankie Laine.[93][94]

At the Supper Club

This compact disk was created from trancriptions of The Chesterfield Supper Club recorded for the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS) in May 1946. Others featured on the broadcasts are Carl Kress and his Orchestra,[112] Helen Carroll and the Satisfiers.[112][113][114][115]

At the Supper Club Part II

This compact disk was created from trancriptions of The Chesterfield Supper Club recorded for the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS) in March and April 1946. At the Supper Club Part III is a 2011 album release of recordings by American singer Jo Stafford. The tracks are taken from her appearances on The Chesterfield Supper Club, the NBC variety program of the 1940s. The recordings on this compilation were made with Lloyd Shaffer and His Orchestra, Paul Weston and His Orchestra, Helen Carroll and The Satisfiers,[112][113][114] and The Starlighters.[114][117] Martin Block is the Master Of Ceremonies.

In addition there are bonus Stafford and Weston tracks. The album was released on June 21, 2011 on the 101 Distribution label.[119]
