Jehoel

Jehoel (Hebrew יהואל, also called Jahoel, Shemuel, Kemuel, and Yaoel) in Jewish Angelology [ [http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=1521&letter=A Jewish Encyclopedia: Angelology] ] is a member of the Angels of Presence, who mediates the ineffable name of God (see Tetragrammaton). The name Jehoel may have been an early form of Metatron. Jehoel is said to be the chief angel of the Seraphim, [ [http://www.religion-encyclopedia.com/A/angels_in_judaism.htm Angels in Judaism] at the [http://www.religion-encyclopedia.com/ Internet Encyclopedia of Religion] ] and governs heavenly singing. He is responsible for holding in check Leviathan, [Davidson, Gustav (1967), "A Dictionary of Angels, Including The Fallen Angels", p. 158, Library of Congress Catalog Card Number: 66-19757] the monster of evil who will swallow the souls of sinners on Judgement Day.
