ynopsis

During the miners strike, a wealthy heiress and her son are kidnapped in Fife, before a botched payoff leaves her dead and the child missing. Twenty-five years later DI Karen Pirie, an expert on cold cases, interviews a journalist who may have found a clue to the enigma while working in Tuscany. However, she soon becomes too pre-occupied with another case from around the same time; miner Mick Prentice notoriously broke ranks and joined the 'scab' strike breakers down south, but recent evidence suggests that his disappearence may not be as simple as that, and soon Karen finds herself stumbling around a darker domain of violence, greed, secrets and betrayal.
