The University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD), (UPHD) or simply Perpetual, is a private, non-sectarian university of higher learning located in Las Pinas City, was founded on 1975 by Dr. Antonio Tamayo, Dr. Daisy Tamayo, and Ernesto Crisostomo as Perpetual Help College of Rizal (PHCR).

Driven with the intense desire of promoting a better quality of life for his fellowmen, Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo, anchored the University on the creed "Character Building is Nation Building". Stressing this belief, he said "Our young can only be assured of a better tomorrow by building the right kind of character today - respectful, hardworking and committed to the formation of a prosperous and a wealthy nation. This development, however, will need a requisite Christian character, that will build a nation." Perpetual was indeed on its way to becoming a premier university south of Metro Manila.

The UPHSD Las Pinas is under the entire university system of University of Perpetual Help System. This university system is composed of eight campuses across the Philippines.

Our young can only be assured of a better tomorrow by building the right kind of character today. By these words and through the UPHD academic programs did the Man of Vision, Dr. Antonio Laperal Tamayo hone Filipinos to become a People of Mission and Action. Then known as the University of Perpetual Help Rizal, the Las Piñas Campus of the University of Perpetual Help DALTA (UPHD) was founded in 1975 by Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo, and co-founded by his wife Dr. Daisy M. Tamayo and friend, Mr. Ernesto Palanca Crisostomo. The founders passion to fulfill his nationalistic dreams was mainly directed to promoting a better quality of life for all Filipinos through the schools course offerings.

The philosophy that national development is predicated upon the quality of education and Christian values has propelled the institution to academic excellence. It has more than 20 colleges and more than 70 various courses inculcating the Perpetualite values, teachings and principles.

The school is a member of National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) since 1984.

History

The first school building consisting of four floors (the present hospital) was constructed in a period of only four months, which ordinarily takes one year to construct.

The University of Perpetual Help Rizal (accredited Level II by PAASCU), now the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, is a subsidiary of the DALTA Group of Companies. It is in consortium with JONELTA Group of Companies forming the University of Perpetual Help System. Each entity under the System comprises a College/University and a Hospital/Medical Center.

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA comprises three of the eight (8) academic institutions complementing the University of Perpetual Help System.

The UPH System, now the UPH JONELTA System, was founded and established by Dr. Jose G. Tamayo, its President and Chairman of the Board, with co-founder Dr. Josefina Laperal Tamayo, as its Vice-Chairman and Treasurer. With both co-founders now deceased, the University of Perpetual Help JONELTA System is now led by the first born of the founders, Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo. The institution is coeducational and is non-sectarian. It offers studies in the preschool, elementary, secondary, tertiary, and graduate levels, as well as short vocational, technical, and special courses. To date, it has a workforce complement of about 1,200 faculty and nonteaching personnel and a student population of more than 18,000.

In subsequent years, the UPHSD established 2 branches or campuses, as well as several agri-businesses which later incorporated into the DALTA Group.

When Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo, assumed the Presidency of the University of Perpetual Help System JONELTA due to the demise of its founder Dr. Jose G. Tamayo, he became the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of both the UPH System DALTA and UPH JONELTA System. Thus the helm of leadership of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA is now transferred to his wife, Dr. Daisy Moran Tamayo as Second President on June 10, 2003.

Col. Jose C. Moran facilitated the needed funds of the project through his friends and the Development Bank of the Philippines.

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, Molino Campus, was established and inaugurated on May 1995 with an initial enrollment of 700 students. Shortly, after a year, the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, Calamba Campus, was established and inaugurated in 1996 with an initial enrollment of 360 enrollees.

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA has since subscribed to the institutional philosophy that national development and transformation is predicated upon the quality of education of its people. It is committed to the ideals of teaching, community service, and research, with "Character Building is Nation Building" as its guiding principle.

University Seal

The seal of UPHSD is a cameo depicting in semi-abstract from the image of Our Mother of Perpetual Help clasping in her arms the infant Jesus. This stands for the Christian precepts to which the college adheres and which binds its aspirations and hopes. The infant Jesus is symbolic of the youth who must be nurtured by a devoted and loving Marywhich speaks of the motherly care and love of the college.The branches of laurel leaves signify excellence which the college pursues, not only in academics but also in leadership and in human relations. The branches, symbol of dignity, honor and reward used by the ancients Greeks also stands for the fulfilment of the aspirations of the college as it carries on propagating its mission.The cameo is bordered by oval lines of gold set in maroon and white background which are the colors of the institution. Maroon symbolizes the red blood of courage, vigor and determination; white for purity, and gold for generosity, abundance, hope and vision.

*The College of Accountancy is committed to develop its student into a world class quality graduate who shall become truly dedicated professional with global mindset but Filipino in spirit, able to inspire excellence, individual initiative, creative, objectively and utmost competence in their chosen field of specialized

*The College of Arts and Sciences commits itself to the integral development of an individual to enable him to effect changes in himself and his environment. Through critical thinking, effective communication, second judgment and formation of values he realizes the fullness of human life. The general education component prepares the student for professional work in the humanities, communication arts or the social/natural sciences and/or further training beyond the baccalaureate degree.

*The College of Criminology shall develop the Criminology Students as a future leader filled with dynamism committed to achieve the highest quality of life and service for the Criminal Justice System and Community. The UPH DALTA Criminology Education program is recognized by the commission on Higher Education geared toward careers in Scientifc Crime detection, Police Administration, Criminal Justice System Administration, Corrections and Jail Management and Penology. Its pragmatic value lies in its responsiveness to the strengthening of the law enforcement agencies of the Government, the improvement of Criminal Justice System Administration and the enhancement of public safety and security.

*The College of Computer Studies adheres to the university's vision to provide a venue for the pursuit of excellence in computer education, information technology and research. The college's mission is to unite resources, research, and service for education and leadership to the UPHSD computer education community and to prepare students, educators, and professionals of the highest quality

*The College of Dentistry has a dental infirmary for clinicians, equipped with the state-of-the-art dental units, laboratory facilities and x-ray units, implant center, reference center, operating room for oral surgery and the Dean's Office.

*The College of Engineering is geared towards the development of well-rounded engineers who are capable to meet the changing demands of industry and who are committed to the proper utilization of the nation's patrimony.

The college provides teaching, extension service and research to produce highly competent graduates who are experts in the technical aspects in areas of Clinical Pharmacy; Chemicals, Food and Drugs Assay, Testing and Instrumentations; Drug Manufacturing and Quality Control; Prescription, Compounding, Dispensing and Incompatibilities; and Hospital Pharmacy

*The College of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy is a premier institution dedicated towards producing physical therapists and occupational therapists equipped with proper knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet the changing demands of the profession nationality and globally. It aims to produce Filipino physical and occupational therapist leaders who are physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually committed to the achievement of highest quality of life.

*The School of Business Administration (formerly College of Commerce) was established in 1975 as a separate college with Mr. Jose Papa as the first college Dean. The new college, with a teaching staff of only eight faculties, was initially based in the Perpetual Help Medical Center (formerly Perpetual Help Hospital) along Alabang-Zapote Road, Las Pinas. The college offered only two (2) course program: Bachelor of Science in Commerce (BSC) Major in Banking and Finance. The Associate in Computer Secretarial was also offered. About fifty (50) students enrolled in these new course programs. In 1977, the college produced it's the first batch of eighteen (18) secretarial graduates

*The Department of Vocational Technology is geared towards the promotion of Technology Literacy and a Competency based vocational technology education for the potential workforce in the fast developing Philippine Industry. With the changing concepts and the emergence of new careers, the department is committed to develop its students into a breed of world class and globally competitive technicians. It offers excellent training in subjects directed towards the particular careers

Business High School

The Business High School (BHS) conceived as a program to enhanced the subject offerings of the 1973 Revised Secondary Education Program through elective subjects that are Business related and within the scope of the Business Distributive Arts Component of Practical Arts. It was actually the need to make the high school department more financially viable and competitive with other schools in the vicinity that another High School Program was conceived of. It aimed to have a quality teachers and facilities to respond to the needs of a developing community which aligned to the economic necessity of making the school more viable. It was in the brainstorming that followed the concept of the Business High School evolved. It was envisioned by its President, Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo, to produce graduates in the secondary level who would be capable or eligible for employment, who would already be able to put up a small scale business and who would be academically prepared to pursue higher studies.

Grade School

The Grade School Department of the University of Perpetual Help Rizal started in school year 1977-1978. Just like any other school, the UPHSD Grade School Department offer programs from preparatory to grade VI class. With its objectives of nurturing Christian values and providing conducive learning to its pupils and quality education, the school believes that its pupils would be competitive when it comes to advanced learning.

The UPHSD Performing Arts Group is the umbrella organization of all artistic activities in the fields of music, theater, and song and dance arts. It endeavors to instill appreciation of Filipino culture of the past and the present era among the Perpetualites. Athletics

The university is a member of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Philippines since 1984 with UPHD Altas as the team representing the school in various sports. Since it has joined the league they are the only NCAA basketball team never to clinch a championship in NCAA Senior's Basketball Tournament not until they tried to win the crown in NCAA 80th season when they are the host school with which almost made it to the top but lost the game to PCU Dolphins in their finals. However, the senior's team had won two General Championships from their winning years 1995-1996 and 1996-1997 for two consecutive seasons. The last time the school hosted the tournament was on the year 2004-2005 of NCAA Season 80: Mighty at 80'.

On the other hand, being the pride of the school's team in NCAA Cheerdance Competiton, the UPHSD Altas Pep Squad now known as UPHSD Altas Perp Squad was the one who's dominion in such demonstration event did lasts. It began when the Altas Pep Squad defeated the inaugural champion Mapua Cheerping Cardinals on 2005. This marked the dominion of Altas Perp Squad in NCAA Cheerdance Competition now NCAA Cheerleading Competition with their unparalleled three consecutive championships. But not until the year 2008 for the 5th Season of the said event when they unexpectedly lost the crown to JRU Pep Squad. The team was believed to lose their title bid when they have rendered several errors on their routines and stunts in their attempt to execute their performance with desired difficulty.

The monicker ‘Altas’ comes from the Latin word “height,” symbolizing UPHD's aspirations for further greatness. At the same time, it comes from the initials of the school founder, Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo.

The other seniors varsity teams may also be referred to as the Altas. The juniors team are the UPHD Altalettes, while the women's teams are the UPHD Lady Altas.

University of Perpetual Help System DALTA - Molino CampusThe 2nd UPHD branch, the Molino campus was established and inaugurated in May 1995. Currently, the UPHD caters to a student population of 4,000 - a dramatic increase based on its initial 700 enrollees. Standing tall in a pristine land area of 6 hectares, the UPHD Molino campus is now the most notable educational institution in Bacoor, Cavite and its neighboring towns. It is currently undergoing campus expansion and upgrading of facilities. More than its structure, the people that comprise this thriving institution have continuously grown physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually as they consistently uphold the philosophy of the main arm UPHD: to constantly invoke Divine Guidance in the betterment of Filipino lives through quality education.

Calamba Campus

University of Perpetual Help System DALTA - Calamba CampusThe 3rd UPHD branch, the UPHD Calamba campus was established in 1996 with only 360 students. To date, its enrollment has dramatically increased to 3,500 enrollees. Strategically located in Barangay Paciano Rizal, Calamba City, the 4-hectare university has an impressive line of state-of-the-art educational facilities conducive for learning. Living up to the standards set by its mother institution, the Calamba campus continues to promote the Perpetualite vision and mission of being a premier university system in the Philippines that develops the Filipino into Helpers of God. With an extensive network of national and international linkages in higher education and business. UPHD Calamba Campus is preparing the globally competitive Filipinos by providing venues for the pursuit of excellence.

The JONELTA Indigent Foundation Inc.

The JONELTA Indigent Foundation Inc. was founded by the former President of University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) and the University of Perpetual Help DALTA Medical Center (UPHDMC), Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo, in 1987 to respond the need for immediate health care assistance to marginal patients in the Medical Center. The increase in the number of membership of the JONELTA Foundation through the years led to the expansion and restructing of the Foundation. It has become the implementing arm of UPHSD to serve the urban poor to provide other services that will eventually lead to self-reliance and better quality of life for the JONELTA beneficiaries. The Foundation, in its expanded form interlinks with the health care program of UPHD Medical center tapping the services of the doctors, nurses, dentists, and other medical staff. Practitioners from the Colleges of Nursing, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy and the school of Midwifery are involved in the activities such as immunization, deworming, maternal and childcare, reproductive health and Operation Pangkalusugan (OPK) in different depressed areas in Las Piñas City.
