Macon (food)

Macon is a bacon substitute prepared from mutton instead of pork. It is more commonly used by people who do not eat pork, such as people of the Muslim and Jewish faiths.

Macon derives from an old Scots recipe. It was produced in the UK during World War II when rationing was instituted.
