Kieler, Wisconsin

Kieler is an unincorporated community in Grant County, Wisconsin, within the town of Jamestown It is located about seven miles northeast of the Iowa-Wisconsin border and the city of Dubuque, Iowa, and about four miles southwest of Dickeyville, Wisconsin. It is located along U.S. Highway 61 and U.S. Highway 151.

At one time, the intersection between the County H road — which led into Kieler — and U.S. 61/151 was one of the most dangerous intersections in the state. With the highway rebuilt as a four lane highway, the safety of the intersection has improved.

John Kieler provided the name for the town. He was born in Prussia in 1800, and landed in the area that is now Kieler in 1855. Other Kielers immigrated from Germany and settled in and near the area in the mid 1800s.

Holy Ghost/Immaculate Conception School serves school age children for grades 5-8. K-4 is held in the school's Dickeyville location. Immaculate Conception is the sole parish found in Kieler featuring it's church constructed in 1858. The church was remodeled in 1896, when a rock exterior and 2 front towers were added. A recent 2004 church addition features a large gathering area space on the west side.
