"Scandalo Segreto" ("Secret Scandal") is a 1989 Italian film which was written and directed by Monica Vitti. It was starred by the same Monica Vitti, Elliott Gould, Gino Pernice, and Catherine Spaak.

For the movie, Monica Vitti debuted as a director of cinema nevertheless it would be her last appearance on the big screen.

ynopsis

On her birthday, Margherita (Monica Vitti) receives a video camera by a friend of her, who is a director of cinema (Elliot Gould). Then, she decides to use the device for keeping a diary of her own life. As the camera is capable to keep recording automatically, usually her flicks feature her talk. However, in one of these occasions Margherita leaves the camera in her bedroom as it was still recording. This occurred just timely to catch Margherita's husband, Paolo (Gino Pernice) who has ever had a distant demeanor to her, as he cheats on her with her best friend (Catherine Spaak). Such "secret scandal" ensues in their separation with Paolo's departure and in a deep depression of Margherita who contemplates even to commit suicide. Then, the director who is her friend examines the film and he concludes that it is an interesting material to become an actual movie.
