Yemmiganur or Emmiganur is a city, mandal headquarters and a municipality in Kurnool district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Geography

Emmiganur is located at coord|15.7333|N|77.4833|E|. [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/2/Emmiganuru.html Falling Rain Genomics.Emmiganur] ] It has an average elevation of 386 meters (1269 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, [GR|India] Yemmiganur had a population of 76,428. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Yemmiganur has an average literacy rate of 50%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 61%, and female literacy is 39%. In Yemmiganur, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.

As of 2008, one can find much development in Yemmiganur mainly in the fields of education and employment.

Yemmiganur is famous for its weavers. A residential colony is exclusively reserved for them. The land for the colony was arranged by Padmashri Machani Somappa. Neelakanteshwara Swamy Rathothsava is a big car festival of Yemmiganur which is celebrated in every January.

Sri. Chennakesava Reddy is the current Member of Legislative Assembly from Yemmiganur constituency. There are very few brainstorming people like Mone Sreeramulu who are working for the Weaver section of Yemmiganur since 1960s.

Now Yemmiganur is a well developed town with an Engineering college SJCET (St John's College of Engineering and Technology)
