Universal Boxing Association

Universal Boxing Association

Charles Jay, a boxing promoter and USA Network employee, founded the Universal Boxing Association, in Miami, Florida. In the UBA's inaugural fight, in September 28, 1987, Manuel Batista won the vacant super-featherweight title beating Jose Vidal by decision in 15 rounds. Both Batista and Vidal were from Dominican Republic and the fight were held in Santo Domingo.

Between 1991 and 1993 several fights with UBA's titles in stake were held in Latin America and Europe. In the most important event, Argentinian Marcelo Victor Figueroa knocked Russian Andrei Oreshkin out in the 7th round, for the vacant Heavyweight title, in May 18, 1991, in Moscow, in the still Soviet Union. In 1993, UBA declines when Jay get out of the boxing bussiness.
