Tomte Laerdal

Tomte Laerdal was a rubber and vinyl toy company based in Stavanger, Norway. The toys were called "Tomte Toys" and they were advertised as "furniture safe". The name Tomte comes from a Norse mythical creature that protected children in their sleep. Laerdal was the surname of the company founder, Asmund S. Laerdal, who later formed the Laerdal Company known for its medical equipment often made of vinyl or plastic.

Tomte Toys were produced mainly in the 1960s and 1970s from dies of earlier European diecast toy car companies Corgi, Dinky, Norev, Solido and others. Along with Auburn Rubber Company of the US and Galanite vinyl toys of Sweden it was one of the most well-known producers of vinyl toys, producing tens of millions of toy cars.
