Kirton, Lincolnshire

Kirton, Lincolnshire

Kirton, or Kirton in Holland is a village and civil parish within the Borough of Boston, in Lincolnshire, England. It is on the A16 road, south of Boston, near Frampton and Sutterton. Several satellite villages and hamlets take their name from the village, including Kirton Holme, Kirton End, Kirton Fen, Kirton Skeldyke, and Kirton Marsh.

The local government has been arranged in this way since the reorganisation of April 1 1974, which resulted from the Local Government Act 1972. This parish forms an electoral ward in itself.

Hitherto, the parish had formed part of Boston Rural District, in the Parts of Holland. Holland was one of the three divisions (formally known as "parts") of the historic county boundaries of Lincolnshire. Since the Local Government Act of 1888, Holland had been in most respects, a county in itself.

The Kirton Research Centre, part of Horticulture Research International, is nearby.
