Frank E. "Lank" Leonard (January 2, 1896 - August 1, 1970) was an American comic strip artists, best known for "Mickey Finn" which he created for over thirty years.

Biography

Lank Leonard was born in Port Chester, New York in 1896. After showing his drawings to Clare A. Briggs, he was referred to Carey Orr, editorial cartoonist of the "Chicago Tribune". They suggested that he took courses in drawing. By 1925, he started working fulltime as a cartoonist, first as an inker at the Bray Productions animation studio, then working as a sports cartoonist for the next ten years. His hobby was golf.

In 1936, his comic strip "Mickey Finn" was bought by the McNaught Syndicate. Appearing in more than 300 newspapers at the height of its success, Leonard continued the strip for the next thirty years, assisted by Mart Bailey and Morris Weiss. By the early 1960s, he moved to Miami and let Morris Weiss take over the writing of the comic. Leonard retired in 1968 and died in 1970. He was married to Florence with two children, Nancy and Jimmy.
