Catacombs of Edinburgh

Catacombs of Edinburgh

The Catacombs of Edinburgh are an extensive network of tunnels and chambers on two levels beneath the streets of the Scottish capital city. Edinburgh's catacombs were created after the opening of the South Bridge, although after around 80 years the catacombs were all but abandoned, residents disliking the unsavoury nature they had adopted.

The catacombs were lost over a century until being rediscovered in the 1980s. Today they are a major tourist attraction.
