The vision

The seal of Vivekananda Vidya Mandir indicates that the vision of truth may be gained through constant hard work, complete devotion and by deep knowledge.

The motto “Tapah – prabhaavaada deva prassadaach – cha” from Svetasvatara Upanishad points out that the Self is realized by the power of one’s experience and grace of God.

Auspicious strides

In 1963, the Birth Centenary Year of Swami Vivekananda, a group of devotees of the Ramakrishna Mission in the HEC complex at Dhurwa, Ranchi formed an Association named Sri Ramakrishna Seva Sangha for Self-realization through worship and selfless service. They had the inspired guidance and blessings of Srimat Swami Vedantanandaji Maharaj, the then Secretary of the [http://www.rkmtbs.org/ Ramakrishna Mission TB Sanatorium] , Dungri, Ranchi.

The Genesis

The foundation of the Vivekananda Vidya Mandir was laid on the auspicious day of ‘Ratha Yatra’ in the year 1970 on the plot of land allotted by the authorities of the Heavy Engineering Corporation Limited, Dhurwa, Ranchi. The Vidya Mandir is an English Medium Co-educational School from KG to Class XII affiliated to CBSE Board, New Delhi.

chool Philosophy/Aims

The aim is not only to impart quality education to the students, but also to bring about their overall development. The Vidya Mandir imparts a type of education that lays stress on character building. It is a co-educational school where a strong foundation for a moral character is laid in each individual student and all possible efforts are made to manifest excellence in knowledge inherent in them, keeping in mind, the definition of education as given by Swami Vivekananda “Education is the manifestation of perfection already in man”.

Academic Sessions

The academic session is from April to March. It has been divided to the following three terms.First Term: April to AugustSecond Term: September to December Third Term: January to March

School timings are as follows:Summer timings: 7.40 AM to 1.25 PMWinter timings: 8.10 AM to 1.55 PM

Admissions (Nursery to class IX)

The names of the children seeking admission for class Nursery and Prep are registered from first week of January and for class I to VIII, in the month of March/April. For registration, every candidate is required to fill up a registration form. It is to be submitted to the Office of the school. The office will issue a registration slip stating Registration Number, Roll number, Date and Time etc. for the admission test when the Slip is to be surrendered.

Based upon the performance of the admission test and vacancies available in the school, qualified candidates will be called for interview. Based on the performance of the both the rounds, admissions are granted to the candidates.

"Requirements:" One recent passport size photograph is required for the registration form. At the time of admission to classes Nursery, Prep and class I, Original birth Certificate (or transfer certificate for class I) is required. For Class II onwards no student will be admitted without submitting the school leaving certificate of the school last attended. Photocopy of the mark sheet of the result of the previous class for class II onwards is also required.

Admission to Class XI

Registration for class XI is done after the publication of class X Board Exams.

Courses of study

The school prepares students for All India Secondary School Examination and All India Senior School Certificate Examinations (10 + 2) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. The school has classes from Nursery to Class XII. The medium of instruction is English for all the classes but Vidya Mandir lays an equal emphasis on Hindi also. The following subjects are taught in the normal curriculum from classes nursery to XII :

English, Hindi, Mathematics, Environmental Science, Music, Drawing, Computer, Craft, and Physical Education. Sanskrit in Class V.

Secondary Classes:

English, Hindi, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Civics, Geography, Sanskrit, Economics, Computer Science, Music, Drawing, Eco-club & Physical Education.

Senior Secondary Classes:Combination of subjects

Facilities in Vidya Mandir

"Transport" The Vidya Mandir has its own bus and students can avail of school bus facilities.

"Library" A rich library is available to all bonafide students of the school during school hours.

"Science Laboratory"The Vidya Mandir has a properly equipped laboratory for Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

"Art and Music Room"A well decorated Art room and Music room with all facilities are good attractions for the pupils.

"Educational Toys"The Vidya Mandir provides educational toys for KG and Prep classes. Many other educational aids are also present in the Primary School.

"Geography Room"

"Computer Centre"There is a well equipped and aesthetically designed Computer Centre. Computer Education is presently optional from class IV to X. And for the students of XI and XII Computer Science is available as an optional subject.

House System

For the sake of interaction among the students of different ages and different classes and to promote the team spirit, loyalty and healthy competition among the students, all students are divided into six houses.

*Mahatma Gandhi House with colour Light Blue called Patriot Club
*Dr. Homi Bhabha House with colour Maroon called Science Club
*Tagore House with colour Pink called Literature Club
*Birsa Munda House with colour Green called Cultural/Heritage Club
*Maa Sarada House with clour White called Harmony Club

Examination

There will be two terminals and an annual examination with monthly tests in between in an academic year for all the classes.
*First Terminal Examination in August
*Second Terminal Examination at the End of December
*Annual Examination in March

"Attendance:" It is mandatory for all students to have 75% attendance.

Awards

a) Awards are given to the first three position holders of each class.b) Prize for full attendance is given.c) Two prizes for good conduct is given in each class.d) In class X and XII prizes are given for securing highest marks in each subject.

Freeship is awarded to all students securing 85% or more in Class X board examination.

General Guidelines for Parents/Guardians

* A close co-operation between the parents/guardians and the teaching staff/authorities of the school is very essential for the proper development of the student.

* Parents are requested not to enter the classrooms to see their children or teachers during the school hours without the permission of the Principal.

* They are required to inform the school if there is any change in their address or telephone numbers.

* Children, when sick, should not be sent to attend tests/classes.

* Attention of parents is drawn to the fact that criticism of the teacher or school in the presence of their children should be scrupulously avoided because it causes the students to lose respect for their teachers with the consequent failure to learn from them. It further retards their progress.

* The parents/guardians are requested to see the progress report/school diary regularly to assess the progress/shortcomings of their wards.

* Parents are advised to grant pocket money very judiciously to their children.

* Parents/guardians are requested to check regularly that their wards are daily preparing lessons in different subjects as per the school routine.

* It is not advisable to bring to school valuable articles like expensive watches, tape recorders, calculators, mobile phones and jewellery.

* Care must be taken of all school property and any damage caused by a student will be made good by the student concerned.
