List of largest footraces

This page contains a list of some of the worlds largest footraces. "Footraces" is used as a term to describe all running/jogging/walking events over a variety of distances.

The size of an event is based on either the number of registered participants or the number of race finishers, depending on which data is more easily available. Note that not all registered participants will actually complete a race. Running USA's Road Running Information Center estimates that, on average, 80%-85% of registrants will complete a race. [http://www.runningusa.org/cgi/evbig-world.pl World's Largest Races] , Road Running Information Center, Running USA Official Site. "Retrieved 2008-08-28"]

If a yearly event has consistently high participation, the year in which that event had the largest number of participants has been listed."

This page is not meant to be a definitive ranking of race sizes, but to highlight large footrace events around the world.
