Media in Abitibi-Témiscamingue

Almost all media in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Quebec serves all cities in the region, with very little differentiation between the three primary cities of Rouyn-Noranda, Val-d'Or and Amos.

Although the cities of Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d'Or are far enough apart that radio and television stations in the area serve the cities from separate transmitters, almost every broadcast station in either city has a rebroadcaster in the other city. The only nominal exceptions are the cities' separate NRJ stations, although at present even these stations share the majority of their broadcast schedule. While Amos is the official city of license for some of the rebroadcasters, only one radio station originates in that city and all transmitters licensed to either Amos or Val-d'Or encompass both cities within their broadcast range.

The Rouyn-Noranda area was originally served by CITO-TV-2 channel 11 from Kearns, Ontario, a repeater of CTV affiliate CITO-TV in Timmins, Ontario; while this transmitter was slated to closed down on August 31, 2009, it is unknown if CTV carried out its plan to close the station's repeaters.[1] CTV programming is still available in this region on cable and satellite.

In Rouyn-Noranda, Val-d'Or and Malartic, cable television is provided by Cablevision, a subsidiary of Bell Aliant. The region's community channel on Cablevision is branded TVC9. All channels listed above are available to all subscribers except CBMT, which is available on digital cable only—this is despite the fact that the city-grade signal of CBVD covers both Malartic and Val-d'Or.[2]

Cable in Amos is served by Télé Amos; all above channels are also available, except CBLT and CBMT — the system offers Halifax's CBHT instead.
