Cinema Blend is a website founded and run by Josh Tyler dedicated to news and reviews of upcoming and currently playing films, movie projects, Television Shows, and a newly founded Music section which covers album reviews, band interviews and daily news from the industry. It combines gossip from anonymous and unverified sources as well as news and reviews. The site has expanded to cover Television in 2006 and more recently has launched sections covering Music, Games, Technology and Celebrity Gossip.

Cinema Blend's reviews are also syndicated to many other third-party websites including buy.com and staticmultimedia.com and feature in print publications such as the Chautauqua Region Word and The Charleston City Paper.

History

The site was launched in 2001 under the name Film Hobbit, its original name attributed to founder Josh Tyler's love of movies and Lord of the Rings.

Over the next few years the site expanded by adding associate contributors and editors and now has an active staffing of around 30, some contributing to the site full time, others part-time.

In 2004 the site was relaunched under the Cinema Blend name in an attempt to move away from the now completed Lord of the Rings series and to position itself better as a serious hub for movie news and reviews.

In April 2007, Time Magazine ran an article on the increasing influence of movie websites and their creators, which included an interview with Cinema Blend chief Josh Tyler.^[1]. Also in April, USA Today^[2] quoted Cinema Blend's Assistant Editor Rafe Telsch in a feature about multiple DVD releases.

In February 2008, the site was quoted by The Times newspaper's Hollywood Buzz section^[3], in June was nominated AMC (TV network)'s Site of the Week.^[4] as well as being quoted in the New York Times movie blog^[5] on an article about the critical savaging of The Love Guru.

Celebrity Encounters

Cinema Blend has had many mixed encounters with Kevin Smith ranging from being barred from a press screening of Clerks II^[6] to mentions on his blog^[7][8] and the director's commentary on the Clerks II DVD. Most recently he gave a private screening of Zack and Miri Make A Porno to Josh Tyler and Rafe Telsch. He was also a guest on Cinema Blend's podcast in late September 2008.

Podcast/Video Podcast

On April 25, 2005 the site launched the first of its weekly audio 'podcasts'. Hosted by Assistant Editor Rafe Telsch with regular guests Margaret Williams and Tim Kinnard, the Weekly Blend Audio Edition provided an irreverent round up of the weeks news, reviews and box office results.

The Podcast has also provided the base for some celebrity interviews including Ewan McGregor, Marcel Langenegger, David Arquette, Uwe Boll, Nichelle Nichols, Joe Harris, Mikhael Hafstrom and Adam Rifkin.

Occasionally other site staff writers have also made guest appearances on the podcast.

More recently Rafe has launched a series of short solo video podcasts, presenting reviews and editorials.

On Sunday 21 September 2008, writer/director Kevin Smith was a guest on the Weekly Blend Audio Show.
