Operation
Dallas High School currently houses just under 1000 students.[4] Although they have a small population, the school was built in 1961 when there were only about 550 students. Therefore, the narrow hallways get very congested during class transition periods, a problem they will address with the new high school building.
The high school uses a block schedule. This involves four 80 minute class periods, three 30 minute lunch periods, and a 30 minute "flex" period at the end of the day. The "flex" period is a time for students to get individual help from teachers, have meetings for clubs and extra-curricular activities, or go to the gymnasium for some exercise. Some students of the school now oppose the flex period because, unlike past years, students can no longer pick where they want to go. It is now assigned to them by the school, instead. Due to the fact that the school day extends 30 minutes longer than the state requires, it may be removed for the upcoming school year.
Dallas High School enforces the following dress code to maintain a building atmosphere for education and academic success:
1.Shorts, dresses and skirts must be no shorter than one inch above the knee.
2.Sleeveless shirts of any kind are not permitted for both male and female students.
3.Jeans, pants, shorts, sweatpants, and skirts must not have rips or holes of any kind.
4.No spandex, unless it is worn underneath a skirt, dress or shorts that meet the guidelines set forth in # 1.

Current Building and New High School
The current school building was originally built in 1961, but is going to be knocked down to make room for the new Dallas High School that is currently under construction. The new high school is being built over the former practice fields for soccer and field hockey and the varsity baseball field. The official groundbreaking took place on June 16, 2009.
There was controversy surrounding the actual date that the proposed new school was to be ready for students and teachers. The classes of 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 were all told, as freshmen, that they were to be the inaugural class to graduate as members of the new high school. Ground was never broken for the promised new school, ceremonially or otherwise, until the aforementioned date, June 16th, 2009 and will not be ready until the 2011-12 school year.
There will also be renovated athletic fields during the process of building the new high school. A multi-purpose field for Lacrosse, Football, Soccer and Field Hockey made of artificial field-turf will be put in. Replacing an old and often muddy practice field. Also, the school district has decided to put in a 400 meter rubberized track, which will replace the outdated cinder track that has actually has become an injury concern for athletes and coaches. Not willing to risk injury to an athlete competing for or against Dallas, they began running "home" meets at nearby Misericordia University in 2009.
Embezzlement Case
From July 1, 2001 to Feb. 28, 2009, former Guidance Counselor Jack Wolensky illegally received:
> $55,829.98 in a total of 231 checks he forged endorsements on and deposited into the Wyoming Valley Baseball League account, which he controlled.
> $4,869 from the athletic fund that was meant to be used for students' meals.
> $52,245.50 from overcharging for the Practice Scholastic Assessment Test.[5]
Athletics
Dallas High School has won PIAA State Championships in football (1993) girls cross country (2003,2005) and girls soccer (2007). Dallas also has won many District 2 and Wyoming Valley Conference titles. A lacrosse team was also adopted for the 2009 season.
