Sylvia Engdahl

Sylvia Louise Engdahl (born 1933) is an American science fiction writer. She has published thirteen books, including seven science fiction novels, three nonfiction books, two science fiction anthologies, and a children's picture book. Engdahl is best known for her novel "Enchantress from the Stars" which was a 1971 Newbery Honor book. She taught graduate courses on the Web for Connected Education, a pioneer in online education, 1985-1995. She lives in Oregon with her two cats. In August 2007 Engdahl published a new adult science fiction/visionary fiction novel, "Stewards of the Flame".

Engdahl wrote six science fiction novels between 1970 and 1981, all of which have been republished in the 21st century. Her new novel, published for the first time in 2007, is adult science fiction, not YA.
