Professional car

Professional car

A professional car in modern times is an automobile that has been modified with extensive coachwork for service in livery transportation (i.e., as a limousine) or in funeral home operations (hearses or flower cars).

Up until c. 1980 ambulances were also available on professional car chassis such as Cadillac and Oldsmobile, as were combination cars that could be utilized either as an ambulance, a first call vehicle, or as a hearse. Since that time, most new vehicles built in the U.S. to serve as ambulances have been based upon vans, cutaway van chassis, or fitted with modular bodies on truck chassis, and provide greater space for patient care and equipment than in the past.
