President (tree)

President is the name of a Giant Sequoia. It is not one of the tallest Giant Sequoia trees in the world with a height of about 241 feet (73.5 metres) nor the widest tree in the world at 23.1 feet diameter breast height but it is the third biggest in terms of volume in the world. As of 2002, the volume of its trunk measured about 1278 cubic meters. The tree is located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park in the United States, east of Visalia, California. The tree is believed to be between 2,500 and 3,000 years old.

The tree was named after President Warren G.Harding in 1923, the tree has many large limbs high up in its crown with the largest limb measuring 8 feet in diameter. Nearby trees include Chief Sequoyah the 26th largest giant sequoia and the congress group, a group of medium sized sequoias consisting of two dense stands the Senate and the House.
