Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency

The Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency Ltd. (CMRRA) is a music licensing agency based in Toronto, Canada.

Founded in 1975, CMRRA is a non-profit organization which represents music publishers and music copyright owners. On their behalf, CMRRA issues licenses authorizing the reproduction of musical works. CMRRA's licenses are applicable to distribution in Canada only.

CMRRA presently licenses the reproduction of its clients' music in the following areas:

Synchronization Licensing - reproduction of songs in films television programs, commercials and other audio-visual productions

Broadcast Mechanical - reproduction of songs by radio stations and satellite broadcasters

Private Copying Levy - CMRRA collects the private copying levy on behalf of its clients through its membership in the Canadian Private Copying Collective (CPCC).

Online licensing and the broadcast mechanical are carried on through CMRRA's joint venture with Montreal-based SODRAC, CMRRA-SODRAC Inc. (CSI)

Representation by CMRRA is open to any person, firm or corporation which owns or administers one or more musical works with respect to Canada.

CMRRA is governed by a Board of Directors elected every two years by the members of the Canadian Music Publishers Association (CMPA).

CMRRA is managed by David A. Basskin (President and CEO) and a management team which includes Caroline Rioux (VP Operations), Fred Merritt (VP Finance and Administration), Ron Porter (Director of Copyright) and Veronica Syrtash (Director of Business Affairs).
