Ralph Neville, 4th Earl of Westmorland

Ralph Neville, 4th Earl of Westmorland KG, PC (February 21 1497 - April 24 1549) was an English peer during the Medieval Period.

Early Life

Ralph Neville was born to Ralph Neville, Lord Neville and Edith Sandys, and the grandson of Ralph Neville, 3rd Earl of Westmorland and Isabel Booth. When his father died in 1497 he inherited the title of Lord Neville. Neville used this title until the death of his grandfather on February 6 1499 when he inherited the titles Earl of Westmorland and Lord Neville, of Raby. At age thirteen Ralph was put under the guardianship of the Duke of Buckingham.

Later Life and Death

Neville went with the English and fought the Scots from 1522 to 1523. He was knighted in Scotland by the Earl of Surrey in 1523. He would later become a Knight of the Garter, a member of the Privy Council, and was one of the peers who tried Anne Boleyn. Ralph died at the age of 52 at Holywell House.

Marriage

Before June 1520 Neville married Lady Catherine Stafford the daughter of Edward Stafford and Lady Eleanor Percy. They had nine children together.
