USS Allthorn (YN-94)

USS "Allthorn" (YN-94/AN-70/ATA-216) was constructed as an "ATA-214"-class auxiliary fleet tug but her designation was changed several times. U.S. Navy records are lacking on information of any services she performed.

Constructed in Slidell, Louisiana

"Allthorn". (YN-94) was laid down on 31 October 1943 at Slidell, Louisiana, by the Canulette Shipbuilding Co. On 20 January 1944 she was redesignated "AN-70".

She was launched on 27 May 1944, but, on 12 August 1944, her name was cancelled and her designation was changed to that of an auxiliary ocean tug. She became simply "ATA-216".

Service and post-war inactivation

U.S. Navy records provide no information on services she provided for the U.S. Navy or concerning her inactivation. It is possible she was transferred to the United Kingdom under lend-lease along with net layers "AN-73" through "AN-77".
