Kohring

Kohring is a popular surname in Germany, and because of immigration, the United States. It originated from the land which is now Germany.

Kohring is more than likely a Saxon patronymic, formed by adding "ing" onto the name "Kohr".

The name is thought to have rose in the Teutoburger Wald region, With Chruch records here showing several spelling variations, Kohring, Koring, Köhring and Köring. The most likely cause of this is the changing of pastor doing the record keeping.

According to these records most of the Kohrings in the Teutoburger Wald region had their occupations recorded as heuerling, a farm worker who would receive a house and in some cases a small plot of land in exchange for a small fee and labour.
