The Rt Rev Charles John Corfe (1843 – 20 June 1921 ["Bishop Corfe. (Obituaries)" The Times Monday, Jul 04, 1921; pg. 16; Issue 42763; col C] .) was the inaugural Bishop in Korea from 1889 ["CONSECRATION OF THREE BISHOPS: Reading, Derby and Corea" (sic) The Times Saturday, Nov 02, 1889; pg. 9; Issue 32846; col C to 1904] . Corfe was one of the four "Bible Clerks" educated as an undergraduate at All Souls College, Oxford [ [http://www.all-souls.ox.ac.uk/about/history3.php History of the college] ] . After graduating [The Times, Friday, Jun 16, 1865; pg. 5; Issue 25213; col B "University Intelligence"] he had a brief spell teaching at St. Michael's College, Tenbury before being ordained in 1866. For the next 22 years he was a Royal Naval Chaplain [ “Who was Who” 1897-2007 London, A & C Black, 2007 ISBN 9780199540877 ] . In 1889 he was awarded an honorary DD on his appointment in Korea ["University Intelligence. Oxford, Oct. 16.
