Peter Price was a Welsh footballer (soccer player) who played professionally in England for a decade that spanned the sixties and seventies. He was one of that generation who bridged the gap between terminological eras, beginning his career as an inside forward and ending it as a striker [As football moved from 1-2-3-5 to 1-4-3-3/1-4-2-4] despite playing a similar role throughout. After an apprenticeship at Liverpool [“The PFA Premier League and Football League Players’ Records 1946-98” Hugman,B: Harpenden, Queen Anne Press, 1998 ISBN 1852915854] he joined Peterborough [ [,,10427~149310,00.html Report of 1960’s “Posh” match] ] , during which time he played for the Welsh Under 23 side [”Rothmans Football Year Book,1970-71” Peskett,R/Williams,T: Harpenden, QAP,1970 ISBN 0362000719] for whom he scored 62 goals in 119 appearances. In 1972 Price signed for Portsmouth [”Portsmouth, from Tindall to Ball” Farmery, C: Southend-on-Sea, Desert Island Books, 1999 ISBN 1874287252] . Price failed to make much of an impact at Fratton Park and returned to his former club two years later. He ended his career at Barnsley, making his final appearance in the Spring of 1978.
