Ancora String Quartet

The Ancora String Quartet was founded in 2000 in Madison, Wisconsin.

The quartet's members have included (current members in boldface):

* Laura Burns, Cynthia Bittar, and Leanne Kelso League, first violin
* Robin Ryan, second violin
* Marika Fischer Hoyt, viola
* Susan Bestul, and Dr. Benjamin Whitcomb, cello

The ASQ became the String Quartet In Residence at the First Unitarian Society of Madison in 2006. They established a recital season there, garnering critical acclaim. They also appeared twice on Wisconsin Public Radio's "Sunday Afternoon Live From the Chazen" series [http://www.wpr.org/sal/] , broadcast live statewide, on Jan. 14, 2007 and April 6, 2008. The next step in their development was their 2008-2009 Critics' Choice Season, the recital programs of which were selected especially for them by local music critics.
