Mathias Damour, using the
pseudonym Astimays, launched Vikidia onNovember 14 ,2006 . Soon after, onNovember 17 , 2006, the site was made public. [article Luc Ihaddadène in Okapi, in June 2007]The site reached the threshold of one thousand articles in
April 2007 , two thousand inSeptember 2007 , and the 3500 inFebruary 2008 .Principles
At its inception, Vikidia allowed both registered and non-registered IP accounts to edit the site. However, in January 2008, contributions were limited to only registered members with viable user accounts.
All contributions are licensed under a
GNU Free Documentation License .Operation
Vikidia is currently run by twelve directors, including two minors.
Educational Use
Vikidia encourages use in the classroom for school projects and research. Various schools in
