Fady Maalouf (born April 20, 1979 in Zahle, Lebanon) is a Lebanes-German pop singer. He is known as runner up of the fifth season of "Deutschland sucht den Superstar", the German version of Pop Idol.

Early life

Maalouf was born in 1979 during the civil war in Lebanon. He lived with his family in a village in the French Bordeaux as well as in his homeland in the north of Beirut. Maalouf went to a Christian kindergarten and sang in the children's choir, until at the age of 17 he began performing as a singer. Then he studied fashion design, made an internship with the Lebanese fashion designer Elie Saab, then worked as an assistant in the Paris dressmaking.

When in 2006 the political situation in Beirut tightened again, he went with his half-brother to Germany. Since then he lives in Hamburg, where he worked as a Barista.

In the summer of 2007, he appeared as candidate in the German version of the talent contest Pop Idol. In the motto shows the viewers voted him into the finals, where on 17 May 2008 he competed against the favourized Thomas Godoj in Grand Finale. With a caller rate of 37.8% Maalouf finally won the second place. His personal song in the final was "Blessed", written by Jörgen Elofsson and Peer Astrom (producer Alex Christensen), and after a contract with Columbia, a subsidiary of Sony BMG, it was released on 4 July 2008 as a single.
