The Information Resources Management College (IRM) is a group of educators working to inform leaders of the United States from the government and the private sector. A unit of the National Defense University (NDU), it is located at Fort McNair, Washington, DC. As a trustedwho voice in the information resource management community, the IRM College is recognizedwho for its excellent graduate-level programs, faculty, and services that provide a strategic advantage for today’s military and civilian leaders in the United States Department of Defense and across government. The Senior Director of the IRM College, Robert Childs, provides strategic direction and vision for all faculty, staff, and students. The Dean of Faculty and Academic Programs, Elizabeth McDaniel, oversees faculty, curriculum, and instruction. The Dean of Students and Administration, Russell Quirici, oversees operational support for the College.

History

In 1976, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the National War College were brought into one joint educational institution when the National Defense University became a historic pooling of the defense community's intellectual resources. They were joined in 1981 by JFSC and a year later by the Department of Defense Computer Institute, now the Information Resources Management College (IRMC) [cite web| url=http://www.ndu.edu/info/history.cfm| title=History of the National Defense University| author=NDU| year=2007| accessdate = 2008-07-17] .

Mission & Goals

- Support efficiency, security, and safety in the government through the correct implementation of information resource management.
- Keep abreast of current events in the world of technology, including new trends and products with potential to improve the curriculum.
- Make use of the technology in the classroom and among the faculty and staff to facilitate learning
- Encourage partnership and interactions with various groups, abroad and domestically, within the government as well as the private sector.
- Invest in human capital to improve the abilities of the college and its students.

Courses

IRMC offers nine different programs in various topics. They are:

- Government Strategic Leader Certificate
- Advanced Management Program (AMP)
- Chief Information Officer (CIO) Certificate
- Enterprise Architecture (EA) Certificate
- Information Assurance (IA) Program
- Information Technology Project Management
- Organizational Transformation (OT) Certificate
- Professional Development

In addition to facilitating learning through classes, courses, and programs, the IRM College responds to workforce learning needs of government organizations in areas corresponding with faculty competence. If agencies and other government organizations request tailored workshops, expert perspectives, and practical advice that aligns with the core competencies of the College and the courses offered, faculty may be deployed to work with agencies on a case-by-case basis. IRM College faculty members have backgrounds in the private sector, civilian government and
defense, and academe, contributing a rich combination of experience and theory that enhancesour learning environment. Although by mission the IRM College is primarily a teaching college,faculty are active in many intellectual communities because scholarship is concomitant to goodteaching.

Federal Consortium for Virtual Worlds

The Federal Consortium for Virtual Worlds is a newly formed group of federal government employees and contractors interested in exploring the use of virtual worlds in government, sharing best practices and policies, creating shared repositories, and networking [. The Consortium has hosted two conferences, in November 2007 and April 2008.
