] was a "Minekaze"-class destroyer, built for the Imperial Japanese Navy immediately following World War I. Advanced for their time, these ships served as first-line destroyers throughout the 1920s and 1930s until gradually replaced by newer types.

Obsolescent by World War II, "Namikaze" spent most of the war in Destroyer Division 1 (DesDiv 1) on patrol and convoy escort duties in the area from northern Honshū to the Aleutian Islands.

On 21 August 1944, "Namikaze" was torpedoed by USS "Seal" (SS-183) north of Iturup in the Kuriles. Her stern severed, she was towed by the destroyer "Kamikaze" to Otaru for emergency repairs. [ The U.S. Navy's [http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/s8/seal.htm history of USS "Seal"] doesn't mention this attack. ]

From 26 September 1944 to 1 February 1945, "Namikaze" was at Maizuru for repairs and rebuilding as a kaiten carrier.

On 5 October 1945, "Namikaze" was removed from Navy List.

On 3 October 1947, ex-"Namikaze" was turned over to the Republic of China, and re-named "Shen Yang"; she was ultimately scrapped.
