Established in 1946, MC Sports began as a single store under the name Michigan Clothiers, in Grand Rapids, Mchigan. At this time, men's clothing had shared the shelving spaces with military surplus items.
As leisure time activities increased in popularity among folks in the 1960s, MC Sports switched its focus from just clothing, to sports equipment, footwear and apparel. At this time, MC Sports was one of the first sports stores with this wide assortment of products one one roof.
In the 1970s and 1980's, MC Sports expreienced solid growth, and purchased two sports chains; the Morrie Mages Sports chain of three stores located in Chicago, and the Browns Sporting Goods chain of 19 stores headquartered in
Peoria, Illinois .Throughout the 1990s, continued growth was sustained as MC Sports entered markets in Kansas City, and others in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.

Every May, MC Sports promotes Mircale May; a month dedicated to helping West Michigan charities. Each week in the month of May, a specific vendor item is advertised. Portions of these sales, and the proceeds from sponsorships and other business are donated to the Children's Miracle Network for each featured item.
