Poker Handicap

The Poker Handicap is a Thoroughbred horse race run at Belmont Park in its “Spring Season.” Open to three-year-olds and up, the Grade III event is set at a distance of 1 mile on the turf (8 furlongs) and offers a purse of $100,000 added.

In its 25th running in 2009, it was run at a mile and a sixteenth in 1985 and at a mile and a quarter in 1986. In 1998, Elusive Quality not only established a new course record (1:31 3/5 over the Widener Turf Course at Belmont Park), but he established what is believed to be a world record for the distance of one mile.
